As hours turn into days and days turn into years, time fades away and the season of life comes to a close. In a moment, the world is changed. There are days filled with sorrow, tears of pain, and the word...good-bye.
One day, a little over a week ago, I had awakened to see soft rays of light gently flickering through the window and birds singing their joyous good-morning songs. The beauty of the morning seemed to hold the promise of a wonderful day ahead...thoughts that were replaced by tears of sadness once I heard the words that grandpa was gone.
I saw myself as a little girl wearing the cowboy boots my grandparents had given me, gathering freshly-laid chicken eggs, picking strawberries, eating handfuls of M & M's and playing with kitties.
I imagined my life without grandpa. How I'd never again see him sitting in his chair watching the news, smell the smoky scent of his cigarettes, or eat the hodgepodge of items that he would make for lunch. How there would be no more little bits of teasing, hugs good-bye...or even hello.
Last week, I went out West to say a tearful farewell and see him one last time. I gazed at his face...I thought about him and grandma and the farm that held so many memories...and then I said good-bye.
Last week, I went out West to say a tearful farewell and see him one last time. I gazed at his face...I thought about him and grandma and the farm that held so many memories...and then I said good-bye.
I like to imagine that grandpa is like the little seed of a well-loved plant that was whisked away in the wind. Gently carried along in the breeze, he lands softly and begins to grow in beautiful place unseen by my eyes, heaven...the home of his new everlasting life.
Sending you my love, grandpa ♥

Tricia this is just so very beautiful. I love my Grandparents like you do. All are gone except my 86 yr. old Grandma whom lives in a one horse town in NE. Her and Grandpa met in gradeschool and were married by age 19 just before he went to war. He passed 12 yrs. ago and I never ever thought she could live so long without him. but she has and she still lives independently in their home and gardens! The photos you have here and words capture how I feel about mine. This post really touches the heart.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss Tricia. Sounds like you have some wonderful memories of your grandpa.

ReplyDeleteoh, this is so nice. All your photos are so great. I love the one with Wylee. I keep thinking about not ever going there again. I think it makes me sadder now then when we were there last week. I wanted to put up a young picture of him too but my scanner wouldn't work. Anyway, maybe grandpa can read your post and he's smiling and feeling so loved.
ReplyDeleteHow lucky you are to have had such a wonderful grandfather in your life. Your post is a beautiful tribute.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss. Grandparents are certainly a gift from God, and should be honored and cherished.
ReplyDeleteMy grandmothers both passed away when I was young so I didn't get to know them very well, though I still remember them. My grandfathers lived to be fairly old, but each had their own health problems. My own parents have been wonderful grandparents to my kids, and I've certainly been blessed in this respect.
You've got some lovely memories to cherish and hold close to your heart.
I am so sorry that you have lost your dear grandpa.
ReplyDeleteTricia,
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss. Your words and photos show the love you feel for your family. Know that your grandfather and family will be remembered in my prayers.

I lost my last grandparent last year and have really struggled with the finality of it all. It's odd when one whole generation of your life has come to an end.
I hope you're able to hold on to all those special memories and share them whenever you can. I love to keep my grandparent's spirits alive in my heart.
I am so sorry. xo
I'm sorry for your loss, Tricia. You have created a beautiful tribute to your grandpa with your heartfelt words and beautiful photography.
ReplyDeleteBless your heart, I am sorry for your loss - but glad for the wonderful memories he left you. I lost my 83-y-o uncle last week, and as I read your post I realized why it hurt so badly - I never had a grandpa, but my uncle always lived with Grandma and ran the farm. We lived down the road from them, and I spent every minute possible at the farm. So I think losing my uncle was like losing my grandpa. Thanks for giving me that connection. Hugs ~ Mary

Dear Tricia,
ReplyDeleteThis is the most soulful, beautiful, gentle post I have read recently. Everything here is profound LOVE ! I am sorry for your lost and I understand your feelings ; I lost my grandpa four years ago. But what I've learned since then is that you live on in the heart of everyone you have touched and nurtured whale you were alive. As long as we remember the feeling of love we have for someone, he can die without ever really going away, because all the love, all the memories are still with us ( I think professor Morri in " Tuesdays with Morri " says it better.) Your photos and words touch my heart and I believe your grandpa would be proud!
Tricia, I am so sorry to hear about your Grandpa. You have some wonderful memories of him in better times. What a beautiful tribute to him!

You have my deepest sympathy. Last year I lost my husband on 2/26 and my dad on 8/26. There are no words of comfort, really. Just know that those who know you, and those of us who have never even met you, care deeply and suffer along with you.
